Debeza Art Studio

Artist on VibrantCast

Hello and welcome to my page! My name is Evans Debeza, a local Chicago artist and licensed architect. As a self-taught artist, my work hails from the heartland of the Blues, the Mississippi Delta. I was born and raised in the Delta, surrounded by rivers, endless acres of fields and catfish ponds, and the melancholic notes of the Mississippi Delta Blues music. While I have no formal art education, I have been painting for most of my life, and have returned to painting after a seven-year break to focus on raising my children and growing my career as an architect. The primary theme and subject matter of my artwork is the Blues. I strive to capture the raw emotions of joy, sorrow, passion and anguish that resonates so deeply in the Blues music. I also enjoy capturing the rural landscapes and old agricultural structures of the Delta which often served as the backdrops and origin points of many Blues artists, Blues techniques, and Blues legends. On occasion, I venture beyond my Blues, and love to capture the rural and urban scapes from past travels through Europe, most notably Spain and Italy. I predominantly paint in acrylic but am exploring and growing my skills in oil.
