Miguel A Cano

Artist on VibrantCast

Miguel A. Cano is an award-winning, Chicago-based portrait artist whose lifelong passion for drawing has been the consistent thread running through a career spanning engineering and design. In 2020, he committed to realistic portraiture, moving from intimate family portraits and slice- of-life moments to increasingly nuanced subject matter. A long time meditator, Miguel’s most recent work is shaped by meditation and contemplative practice, bringing an attention and awareness that is at once intensely focused and relaxed. Miguel’s work channels the spirit of traditional mark-making translated via the iPad, an indispensable tool carried over from his design background. For Miguel, the depth of attention and the authenticity of hand-drawn expression comes first no matter the medium. Rooted in his perspective as a first-generation American, his Chicago family life, and his art practice, his work remains a meaningful way of understanding the world and ourselves.
