Denise Giordano
Artist on VibrantCast
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Denise was first introduced to art at the age of eight while taking classes in the basement of a neighborhood brownstone. Encouraged by her early interest, she later applied to the High School of Art and Design in New York City, where she was accepted based on a handmade portfolio. Although creativity played an important role in her youth, art did not become her initial career path. Denise went on to spend more than two decades working on Wall Street, followed by twenty years in the energy sector in Houston, Texas. After retiring, she entered a period of profound personal reinvention and returned to her original passion for art. Over the past five years, she has immersed herself in a self-directed artistic journey, exploring multiple mediums including abstract painting, sculptural forms, textiles, and the unconventional use of soot. Working primarily as a self-taught multidisciplinary artist, she embraces experimentation, intuition, and material exploration. The organic and unpredictable nature of soot has become a particularly compelling element in her practice, introducing themes of fragility, permanence, and transformation.
