I paint modern landscapes, using a wide variety of marks and colors. My paintings are representational works but stylized and expressionist with varying degrees of abstraction. Some of them contain suggestions of symbolism. I strive to create a visual language based on intriguing shapes and designs I observe that connect viewers to the world outside of the painting, and I suggest reasons to care about it. The intense focus on nature as subject matter stems from the time I have spent outdoors in recent years. My artwork does not always convey positive ideas and moods about the natural world. Although many of them do express an appreciation of the beauty and vibrancy of nature, there are some that convey a moody pessimism, or a questioning, or a reaching for answers
