Artist on VibrantCast

My name is Samir D. Lijon-Ali. I am an artist whose creative journey is deeply intertwined with a fascination for dinosaurs. Hailing from Chicago's South Side, my childhood passion led me to craft intricate figurines using masking tape and tin foil. Dinosaurs symbolize resilience and survival, drawing a parallel between the strength exhibited by these ancient creatures and black men and women of all ages navigating adversity. They also embody themes of evolution, change, power, and exploration. My work echoes the impermanence of life, drawing from the extinction of dinosaurs to highlight the fragility of ecosystems, the rise and fall of civilizations, and personal transformation. Through majestic dinosaur forms, I convey the awe-inspiring forces of nature while igniting curiosity and nostalgia. These prehistoric beings also serve as metaphors for adaptability, underscoring the triumph over challenges. Dinosaurs are a catalyst for creativity, sparking imaginative journeys and encouraging awareness of cultural, religious, and environmental aspects. My artistic journey is a testament to the nurturing support of my mother, who allowed my creativity to flourish.
