Sophia Helfand

Artist on VibrantCast

Sophia Helfand, a bicultural artist based in Chicago's Hyde Park community, found her creative liberation in collage: an often-overlooked medium. Drawn to the transformative power of repurposing old images, she shapes them into new forms that breathe life into forgotten fragments of time and space. In fact, the pieces exhibited at the Open Canvas Show explore these two dimensions. Each piece is a cohesive tapestry of colorful layers and hidden gems. Sophia has a distinctly bright and mind-bending style that conveys the joy that depicted subjects feel as they surf, paint, read and write.
