Artist on VibrantCast

Gregory “Werm” Gunter grew up on the South Side of Chicago in the 1980s, where the struggles of his environment first led him to graffiti. What started as an act of rebellion—spray painting rooftops, water towers, and billboards—quickly grew into a passion that defined his life. Graffiti brought him both trouble and salvation. It was the outlet that once put him behind bars, but ultimately became the force that set him free. While incarcerated, Werm survived by drawing portraits for five dollars, trading his work for food. In those moments he turned to God and asked, “Why am I here?” The answer he felt was simple yet powerful: “You know why you’re here.” From that day forward, his path was undeniable. He was meant to create. Since his release, Werm has devoted his life to art. His story is one of transformation—struggle becoming strength, and creativity becoming redemption. Every piece he creates is a testament to resilience and faith, carrying his belief that art can save lives, because it saved his.
