DREI EYE

Papier mache, acrylic paint, and glitter on canvas. This piece was created in 2020 during the height of quarantine when everyone’s life was changing. I used ripped-up newspapers to create the background, which I attached to the canvas using papier-mache. I then painted over this with black acrylic paint and sprinkled gold glitter over it before it dried. The skull is made using the same papier-mache technique, but the paper comes from a collection of Tom Stoppard plays. If you look closely, you can probably identify some stage directions and sections of dialogue. I’d be interested to see if you come up with any “refrigerator magnet poetry” from it. The title is a play on words, using the term “dry eye” but instead spelling it “D-R-E-I,” the German word for “three.” So, “three eye.”
