Shared Experience

This acrylic on canvas painting deals with the psychological idea of a transpersonal connection being at the core of our foundation as humans. This is not necessarily within the context of religion or spirituality, but rather a connection solidified by a shared human experience. This is depicted in the painting through the use of roots as a connecting/transformative attribute for the figures as they become a part of, or collectively form, the tree. While reflecting this connection, the painting is also meant to suggest a sort of tension built between the tree and the figures based on the contradicting emotions that may coincide with the idea of transpersonal psychology. The human drive for individuality and our shared fear of isolation create a juxtaposition in the feelings of comfort and anxiety that arise from knowing we are such a small part of something so expansive.
