This drawing (from "The Be As Comfortable As You Can Be In You Own Body" series is dedicated to W Eugene Smith, a true inspiration, for brutally reporting his visual narratives often in Life Magazine. He was one of the single most important American photographers in the development of the editorial photo essay. The image depicts the compassion of a mother for her poisoned child previous to birth due to pllutants in the water which her mother consumed via drinking water or from eating contaminated seafood. W. Eugene Smith’s Warning to the World: "The Magnum photographer made his last photo essay about industrial mercury poisoning in the Japanese city of Minamata, helping to bring justice and visibility to the victims." -The Society Look up his incredible Minamata series telling the story of industrial pollution that poisoned sea life and people, who eventually saw some justice through Smith's documentation of the deadly effects of industrial mercury pollution in Minamata. Please note I am happy to work on commissioned pieces for and with you on this theme or any others.
