Shame

by Lynell Ingram

$1,200

Part of the Boundaries series, a collection of mixed-media paintings exploring the mental health effects of different aspects of culture and society on women. 'Shame' addresses the vulnerability of how our bodies, our menstruation, and our sexuality are both fetishized and scorned. They can be used as weapons against us as things we should be embarrassed about, even punished for, and are yet desired or expected. The snake can be seen as a predator that creates this dynamic, the source of our awareness, or as the protective strength that embraces us as we claim our narratives and bodies. Mixed media with dimensional elements; acrylic paint, canvas strips, collage, and transfer print on canvas.
