I am All the Ages I Was Before

I am drawn to the subject of water at sunset because of the evocation of awe. Nature strikes my soul as it floods my senses. With my eyes fixed on the nuance of hues before me, my feet sink slowly into the sand, grounding me in the moment. The breeze tangles my hair with a warm caress. I am present– in my body, in nature, and in wonder–experiencing a unique intimacy with the world around me. Each rush of the waves carries away the weight of my thoughts. I feel connected to all the ages of my younger self, when life seemed freer and lighter. In my work, I am all the Ages I was Before, a little girl stands transfixed, mesmerized by the spectacle of the setting sun. She gazes at the light dissipating into blushes of red, orange, and yellow. The waves roll in gently with room between each crest, gathering the light along still, calm surfaces. The little girl is me at thirty-six, twenty-two, fifteen, eleven, eight–she is all the ages I’ve ever been. Together, we live the joy of being, of lightness, and the beauty found in this fleeting, ephemeral moment.
