Expression 3

In between my larger, more detailed paintings, I like to create smaller acrylic pieces, with a focus on facial expression. These works are often warped and distorted, while still maintaining a level of familiarity in the emotion that they depict. I find the process of these paintings to be interesting because my initial approach in outlining the features of the face has no intention. I sketch out two eyes, a nose, and a mouth onto the canvas that would seemingly have no business being anatomically cohesive. This practically accidental process yields an end product with expression that is acutely specific to a recognizable emotion.
