Taking Flight

In a single moment, everything I had worked for was ripped out from under me. A head-on collision with a drunk driver changed the course of my life in ways I never could have imagined. Before the accident, I was chasing my dreams, making choices that felt aligned with my future. But in an instant, I lost control—of my body, my plans, and the path I had so carefully built. The recovery was grueling, and just when I thought I was getting back on my feet, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness. That was my rock bottom. I felt stuck, lost, and angry that I had been thrown onto a path I never wanted to be on. But in the midst of that darkness, I found art. Or maybe, art found me. Painting became my therapy, my saving grace—the one thing that made me feel alive again. Taking Flight was the first painting I created from the depths of my heart and soul. It was the moment I finally felt hope again. The woman in the piece leans back, eyes closed, surrendering to the moment, as the spirit of an owl emerges from within her, soaring into flight. This is my story on canvas—the moment I let go of the pain, the anger, the weight of what I had lost. I was no longer trapped.
