There comes a moment when we realize that in order to grow, we must be willing to shed what no longer serves us. Like a tree in spring, we awaken from the seasons that tested us, and with courage, we begin to bloom. Awakening Bloom is part of my A Season to Bloom series—a collection of paintings that explore the beauty of transformation, resilience, and becoming. This piece, like the series itself, is deeply personal to me. After surviving a traumatic head-on collision with a drunk driver, everything I had worked toward felt ripped away in an instant. I felt stuck, like I had no control over the path I had been forced onto. As I endured a long and painful recovery, I clung to the hope of regaining the life I once had—only to be met with a chronic illness diagnosis that left me feeling even more lost. For a long time, I was merely surviving, trapped in a season of darkness where hope felt distant. But healing, I’ve learned, is not just about overcoming—it’s about allowing ourselves to thrive.
