Praise

"Praise" is a piece about deconstruction of identity through the paint process. I grew up as an identical twin and seldom heard my own name, this caused a deep rooted sense of wanting recognition as an individual. In painting "Praise" it shows the distortion of the human form, it serves as a catharsis of deconstruction of identity yet being uniquely itself. In the composition there are figures that can be seen through heavily distorted human hands, seemingly symmetrical. "Praise" alludes to one of the poems that inspired not only my body of work, but this piece. The poem is about a persistent subconscious, and lucid thought, and not being able to recognize oneself. In the poem the subject’s eyelids are translucent and everything in their reality and dreams are one, they are existing in lucid thought. Not being able to recognize what's real and what isn't, or who they are. Being conscious beings and lack of awareness of the self, the deconstruction is at its peak in this painting.
