Each of these pieces are in a cohesive body of work that have been taken through a lengthy process of deconstruction. This piece is a still from a film I made and I then painted it, the goal is to distort identity through painting it. It wrestles with the concept of humanness, and de-constructing the layers of humanity through paint, photography, and film using varying mediums and I use each medium in each painting submitted. Through this process I use the image of self and warp it to something indiscernible and difficult to identify. In each of my pieces I use myself as a core subject, the prime example of an individual human being. I then capture many photographs or videos, then distort myself through a series of photo processes, and digital distortions, then further the distortion by painting that exact image, or displaying it in the gallery space. One of the main themes in this body of work is warping the concept of an individual by contorting images, and making myself unrecognizable. How do I take myself out of a space through my art, only using images of myself?
