"William." is one of the artists favorite pieces. Alexander Proulx is a self taught artist, and that can make learning new mediums and techniques an adventure. Living in the city of Chicago, it is difficult to have and use spray paints. They aren't available to purchase in the city, and generally require a large ventilated space to use. When creating "William." the artist had created his own spray paints utilizing a kit which required mixing his own medium. Trying to learn to master this process overall achieved... mixed results. However, "William." he considers a great success. This is because this piece reminds him of one of the artist's favorite parts of creating art. The part where you get to learn how a craft or technique works-- using trial and error until finally, you have a piece you can be proud of.
