Mood Music for Rainy Drive

This oil painting depicts a rainy drive back to Portland Or from a fall day trip to Hood River. It was cold and dismal and my playlist was moody and earthy; lots of Tom Waits, some Taj Mahal and various Blues artists. The constant rain, the wet road and the selected music set a a tone for one of the most evocative - but satisfying - couple hours I've had. When I hear one of the tunes I heard that afternoon, the drive comes back to me so clearly. I was compelled to record the experience with paint. This painting has undergone several transformations as I strove over a two year period to relate the scene I remember and evoke similar feelings to my experience.
