This oil on canvas painting is of a pair of gardening shears passed down to my husband from his grandfather, who brought them over from Italy. In our family, a love for gardening runs deep and it grounds us to our roots, but also celebrates where we are in the present moment. Living in Chicago is more than just skyscrapers and traffic jams- there are also urban gardens, chicken homesteaders, and wildlife surrounding us. Gardening and appreciating the many living things around the city reminds us of the beauty and simplicity of nature.
