oil on canvas Thinking about Individualsim and the way that Satan embodies a perfect representation of the Individual. I'm far from religious, not a satanist, but I enjoy the mythology. Satan represents a freedom to be against the dominant forces of the time, right or wrong but free. That idea coupled with the rise of abstract thinking in art and theory from the early 20th century to today and the impact critical theories have had on the psyche of the population creating scenarios of existential crisis in groups completely unprepared to handle them. A crisis of meaning where dominant societal beliefs that have been successfully challenged as falsifiable but still maintain a personal infallibility become outwardly hostile and seek a consolidation of power.
