Drown-Proofing

May 27, 2025 – July 18, 2025

Epiphany Center for the Arts, 201 S Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL 60607, USA

from Epiphany site: This exhibition explores the art of holding on and letting go, of adapting to unfamiliar territories, and the ways we sustain ourselves without stability. Drown-Proofing brings together artists from the SAIC community, including staff, graduate, and undergraduate students. The artists navigate shifting cultural, political, and personal landscapes, examining what it means to stay afloat amid adversity. Their works address survival tactics, resistance, and transformation, confronting systems of power that threaten to pull communities under. This exhibition brings together a dynamic group of interdisciplinary artists from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), including undergraduate, graduate students, and faculty. Featuring work by Ahmad George, Cenìnye Harris, Christina Lee, Daun Suh, Emily Schroeder Willis, Heaven Hill, Isaiah Lee McDaniel, James Baroz, Liang Yu Huang, Nanako Wagley, Pedro Montilla, Pedro Trueba Ramírez, Ruby Bassford, Seunghee Lee, Shengjie Jiang, Vanessa Damilola Macaulay, and Winnie Weiyun Szu, the show spans a range of practices including ceramics, painting, drawing, photography, fiber, and performance.
