Dreaming In Blue brings together six artists connected through Dream Clinic Project Space, an artist-run gallery and studio in Columbus, Ohio. Working across sculpture, ceramics, painting, and drawing, each artist presents work that explores the color blue. The artists approach blue both literally, as pigment, glaze, wash, and tint, as well as conceptually; melancholy, memory, grief, or calm. Rather than a single shared thesis, the exhibition offers six distinct responses to one prompt, held together by a common thread through the Dream Clinic and each artist’s individual interpretation of what blue can mean. Together, the work prompts: How does the color blue persist as an emotional gut punch and a cultural signifier? How are our bodies so tuned to the subtle differences in blue tones, from the erotics of electric blue to the recesses of shale? How does the relative nature of color shape our understanding of our own emotions, which equally escape measurement and rationality?
