Artist, Caryl Yasko, 1972. Yasko’s mural features 133 figures bowed beneath James Agee’s poem “Rapid Transit.” Over the poem is a tank, an allusion to the Vietnam War but also the presence of the 5th Army Headquarters and the Nike missile installation in Hyde Park. To her, the poem was a warning that we lose creativity as society changes us. She included herself, holding paint brushes and carrying her daughter strapped to her back, holding onto her creativity.
