Outpost

“Outpost” is a continuation of my journey to regain control over my perfectionistic OCD. As I experimented with the artistic themes commonly used in science fiction (simple geometry with random extrusions, creatures closely based on existing species, etc), I was increasingly worried that my anxious spiraling would ruin the fun that I had learning to create the 3D models in the first place. I feared that my work would be seen as uninspired or derivative. Instead of letting these negative thoughts ‘win’, I recalled the process that led to my earlier works and used this fear as a motivator. Initially, I did simply create for the sake of creating. I did so to show to myself that I am capable of making art no matter how I am feeling. I sought to turn these uninspired components into something that, upon closer inspection, proved that I cared about my work, even if others might not appreciate it as much as I do. After modeling and rendering my scene, I sent it to my tablet and filled in every block of color with concentric outlines, giving an organic, topographic texture to my work.
