We Wander With Purpose

This piece is a reflection on my process after having completed a few projects. I seek to add something new to each new project. With “We Wander With Purpose”, I wanted to focus more on the story behind the scene. Admittedly, this piece started with the timed experimentation exercise that I used to begin my previous works, within which a six-legged, horned creature began to take form. From there, each additional object was created with a story in mind. Would this giant beast be peaceful? Could it be domesticated? Why would someone wish to train this creature? In the past, I had rarely considered questions such as these. My anxious spiraling left me too paralyzed to think beyond the aesthetics of the final product. Having taken steps towards creating meaningful art, I am grateful to be anxious about increasingly higher-level concepts in my work, however simple others may perceive them to be. This piece sets me up to follow a group of humanoid, mask-wearing nomads that make their living through trade. Their ties to the natural world are shown through shared features between their masks, the creatures that live in harmony with them, and the spiritual forces that guide them.
