We Believe in Ourselves
by Samir's Studio
I met Joseph Olalusi at Cornell University. He was the first upperclassman I met, who also hails from my hometown Chicago, IL. We also attended the same High School, Urban Prep Academy. One of the final lines in Urban Prep's Creed is "We Believe in Ourselves", and Joseph embodies that quote as he walks through life. Very few know that Joseph failed his first accounting class in his sophomore year at Cornell. However, that didn't stop him. He overcame the rigors of the Ivy League and graduated with a B.A in Accounting. Only two percent of Accountants in the US are Black. This portrait is a reminder that you only fail if you give up.
