I Love You (My Supercomputer)

The internet is there for you when you're in love and you don't know how to say it in person. Ten years ago, in my prime early internet surfing days, I was introduced to queer representation for the first time, and led to the eventual discovery of my own queerness, too. Being socialized by the internet and the media I consumed, I really mainly found close bonds in other online queer people obsessed with anime. I also think about how the stylistic facial expressions found in manga – particularly women's manga and romance – are when it comes to evoking being in love, there's so much delight, but also almost this look of being on the verge of tears. In my earliest queer relationships, we desired so much to mirror those cliche love confessions underneath the cherry blossoms in the spring... It's all just a funny, messy facade, but the gesture meant a lot to us when we were young.
